Where is the desert biome located in the world?

Main deserts of the world are mainly located in the south western USA, Mexico Coastal areas of Chile and Peru (Atacama), North Africa (Sahara), South Africa (Kalahari), Asia (Tibet, Gobi, Thar) and central western Australia etc

Most of the deserts of the world are located around the tropic of Cancer and Capricorn (between 15° and 35° latitudes). 

Deserts are characterised by high temperature, bright light, colder nights and scarce animal and plant diversity. 

During day time temperature reaches up to 50 to 60’C, but nights are very cold.

Flora: Three types of plants are common:

1. Ephemeral annual herbs (These grow when moisture is present)

2. Succulent xerophytes (plants which store water, such as  Euphorbia)

3. Shrubs and small trees (like Prosopis, Salvadora and Tamarx) All these plants are well adapted for xerophytic conditions. 

Fauna: Desert animals include ants, locusts, wasps, scorpions, spiders, lizards, rattle snakes, many insectivorous birds, seed eating quails, doves, desert rats, foxes and jackals etc.
